The Sisters

Brianna came to the U.S. with her younger adult sister KatrinaThe younger sister has a severe physical disability from an accident that severely injured her pelvis and arms when she was young and confined her to a wheelchairThey were granted asylum in the U.S. because the government of their home country persecuted them for their political beliefsThat government seized their car, their home and their funds and forced them to flee to another country.

Integrating into the U.S. and the Bloomington community has been a gradual process.  With help of limited federal resettlement funds and friends, the siblings were able to settle into stable life here.  Now they live in an apartment where they are safe and where the older sister continues to be a full-time caretaker for the younger sister.  They have continued to pursue their faith and have visited multiple churches in the area and been able to rekindle their religious faith.

RSN provided many areas of help for these sisters, from providing rides and replacing a broken smartphone to helping them understand the disability support system in Indiana.
